What is Mā Te Reo?
Mā Te Reo is a Government funded programme established by the Minister
of Māori Affairs in 2001 to support projects, programmes and activities
that contribute to local level Māori language regeneration.
Who manages Mā Te Reo?
Mā Te Reo is administered by Te Taura Whiri i te Reo Māori. A Fund Management Committee, Te Rōpū Tautoko, makes recommendations on who should receive funding to the Board of Te Taura Whiri i te Reo Māori. Te Rōpū Tautoko membership is made up of representatives from Te Taura Whiri i te Reo Māori (Māori Language Commission), Te Māngai Pāho (Māori Broadcasting Agency), Te Tāhuhu o te Mātauranga (Ministry of Education), Te Puni Kōkiri (Ministry of Māori Development) and four representatives from the Māori community.
PURPOSE
Mā te Reo is administered by Te Taura Whiri i te Reo Māori and provides financial support for community-originated projects that increase language use, proficiency and strengthen the ability of communities’ to lead language regeneration.
WHO CAN APPLY FOR MĀ TE REO FUNDING
- Iwi, hapū, marae, whānau, Māori organisations and individuals.
- To apply for $10,000.00 or more you must be a legal entity.
WHO CANNOT APPLY
Funding is not available to government agencies or academic institutions, or to individuals, groups or institutions that already receive regular programme funding directly or indirectly from Government.
