  • include a stock take/survey of target groups language ability
  • be based on a series of consultation hui with the target group
  • include long and short term goals with objectives and targets that can be measured
  • include an action plan detailing what needs to happen to achieve those targets and goals
  • a process for implementing and monitoring progress

  • Kia Ora ai te Reo Māori – Planning for Māori Language Regeneration
  • Te Reo Māori i Tō Hapori – Community Māori Language Profiles

2. Kura Reo-ā-Iwi

  • must not be produced primarily for commercial gain
  • must be trialed at the prototype stage with the target user group

  • may range from one day through to a weekend wānanga
  • may be delivered in a ‘block’ or ‘blocks’ as opposed to regular classes
  • may be focused on a specific language kaupapa (e.g. karanga, whaikōrero etc)

If you intend using the Te Ātaarangi programme then one reference must come from Te Komiti Matua o Te Ātaarangi and a Te Ātaarangi kaiako must be used.

6. Information Communication Technology (ICT)

These projects focus on the promotion and development of te reo Māori through the development of ICT applications (e.g. websites, software). These projects:

  • should be designed to be easily accessible to Māori homes and community users at no or low cost
  • must not be produced primarily for commercial gain

7. Language Programmes & Classes

These are community based language programmes for any level of language proficiency. They usually consist of a number of classes delivered over a defined period with predetermined content.
